Out of nowhere, I got this sudden urge to wear my hair a-la Scary Spice, circa 1996. Then I listened to Britney Spears, the early years, on my ipod while driving to work. Then things got out of control, and I started re-watching old episodes of Buffy and browsing through my old pre-teen magazines.
And then it hit me. I miss the 90s. Bad. I lived the first ten years of my life in the 90s, and looking back at the pictures and fashion and pop culture, it makes me dream of simpler times.
I miss the Fashion.
Track suits, crop tops, neon colors, big floppy hats, daisy prints on everything, and platform shoes. Gone was the fear of judgement, and instead replaced with the fear of not being colorful or outrageous enough. More white eyeliner! More arm bands and jelly bracelets! More neon prints!
Fun fact? I completed my first triathalon in platform shoes. My parents tried to convince me it wasn't a good idea, and I convinced them I wouldn't move an inch if I didn't get to do it in style.
I miss the Hair (and accessories).
The half up ponytail with a scrunchie, the frosted tips that looked good on all the boys, the rock hard prom hair, and the twisted bangs pinned back with butterfly clips. Genius.
Fruit by the foot, gushers, dunkaroos. I wasn't allowed to eat any of it, but I stole my fair share of bites from my friends enough times to know that shit was amazing.
The tapes and CD's.
Gone are the days where if you like a song, you have to buy the entire album. And gone are the days of sitting on the bus to school, listening to the entire "Las Ketchup" CD, just to hear the one song that made them sort of popular, but having to suffer through all the other songs and remixes as well. Now you can just download one song, whatever "Gangam Style" one hit wonder is up at bat this week, and not suffer through the rest of the crap the "artist" puts out. Lame.
What do you miss about the 90s? What would you rather not re-live?
